Balance and beauty

On June 15, 2012, Nik Wallenda became the first person to cross Niagara Falls on a high wire. He walked over the massive cascade of water from the United States to the Canadian side.

Step by step he moved above the falls, while beneath him, nearly 5.7 million liters of water rushed powerfully over a 200 foot drop each second. He took a little under 30 minutes to traverse the 1800 foot distance over the falls. Wind and mist pounded him from all sides.  Even though he was required to wear a safety tether, he didn’t have to use it…

…because while accomplishing this feat, he relied heavily on the balancing pole he carried, which was harnessed around his shoulders.

During this Christmas season, I was led to explore fresh insights about Jesus and the changes His life produced. While meditating before the Lord, I suddenly started thinking about Nik Wallenda’s walk across Niagara.  I waited to see if it was a passing thought generated by my random mind, a distraction, or the Lord showing me something. I realized quickly the Holy Spirit was giving me a visual lesson about one of the changes Jesus has provided to believers, who are willing to accept it. Jesus didn’t just come to live among us, He came bringing changes that bless our lives. The larger concepts of salvation, justification, redemption and deliverance are all changes for our blessing, but I want to focus on a change I call balance.

The Niagara Falls of life are always potentially ahead, for each of us. We walk through our days with countless decisions to make… what, when where, or who. Our overall well-being (which includes relationships, health, finances, maturity,  safety, stability, comfort, security, happiness) lies before us like a tight rope. If we lose the balance, we tumble off that tight rope of harmony and peace, and into the turmoil. One careless move can cause pain and suffering within a blink of eye; one misguided decision can send us into debt or destroy a relationship. Some have developed skills to keep up the balance of life themselves. With much concentration, they take one step at a time on that high wire, using the balancing poles of education, common sense, fame, wealth, resourcefulness, creativity, or just plain bull-dog tenacity, all of which can be valuable in varying degrees.

Seemingly, this skilled high wire act appears to do well, until eventually a gust of life’s winds or the fog of life’s mist attack their balance. During these pressing conditions, it becomes obvious the balancing pole being used is not enough for the completion of this journey over tumultuous falls. Education will eventually reach a peak. Common sense will get tripped up by inexperience. Fame and wealth fade away. Resourcefulness and creativity hit blank walls and discouragement, and that bull-dog tenacity becomes weary and unfocused.

When Jesus came to fulfill God’s love for humanity, God gave us the greatest gift, Himself. Jesus made a way, through His Spirit within us, for us to access His unlimited abilities, and we gain a supernatural balancing pole. We have every skill needed to live balanced lives, through His power working in us, to walk over the turmoil and even to experience the beauty of life despite the troubles. I imagine Nik Wallenda had an amazing view of the beauty of Niagara.  God’s work is always beautiful, whether it is His creative work, like the physical beauty Niagara Falls, or through His creative work within us spiritually.

Matthew 1:21 Amplified Bible (AMP)

21 She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus [the Greek form of the Hebrew Joshua, which means Savior], for He will save His people from their sins [that is, prevent them from failing and missing the true end and scope of life, which is God].

Nik Wallenda did not start across Niagara without a balancing pole and then suddenly realize he needed it. That is why he didn’t have to use the safety tether to prevent him from falling. He assessed his inability to walk that high wire without the pole before he ever stepped on it, and he totally relied on the balancing pole the entire way. Consistent peace in life comes when we prepare our hearts to realize our need for Jesus, and our willingness to depend on, and receive the blessing of balance through Him.  It isn’t about waiting until all our resources are proven inadequate, it is starting the walk across life’s traps and pitfalls, knowing it can only be accomplished by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 11:28-30 Amplified Bible (AMP)

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

Many of us have experienced a tumble off life’s high wire. I know I’ve gotten wet many times, as I dangled above life threatening waters, saved by His grace alone. Had it not been for the safety tether of God’s saving, sustaining grace, I would have fallen completely into the turmoil, never to have recovered. But, praise God  He loves us and watches over us in such a way that He is able to rescue us from the foolishness of not relying on Jesus to balance our lives.

Galatians 5:25 Amplified Bible (AMP)

25 If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]

My heart yearns to live a life patterned after Nik Wallenda’s balancing ability, entrusting my life to the balance provided by Jesus, not needing to be rescued from the waters of despair, because He helps me walk over them.

John 16:33 Amplified Bible (AMP)

33 I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]

  1. What a wonderful allegory Donna thank you it was so good, yes we can choose to fly high or nose dive, God never goes against our free will and we reap what we sow but how good when we come to heart repentance and so we turn from evil and are perfected in Love doing good by the empowering of The Holy Spirit , and how wonderful also to be set free from the bondage and slavery of sin, having put our flesh to death by the Spirit and so having God’s balance not the worlds but we don’t have to do it alone as you shared.

Colossians 3:4-6 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.

Romans 8: 12-15 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father

Galatians 24 -26 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Romans 8:1-4 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

1 John 3: 1-11 ( 9) No one who is Born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been Born of God.

    • Yes, that maturing process of dying to self takes a lifetime. It is done, it is finished as far as He is concerned, but we must work out our salvation, by the power of His Holy Spirit. Just when we think we are a finished product,God gives us a glimpse of something else that must go.:-) I’m thankful He doesn’t show us all of it at once…it would be too discouraging…and I’m thankful He is patient as we learn to yield to Him so He reigns more and more, in us, and through us, day by day. His mercy is fresh everyday…..may we be found faithful in Him….thanks for your encouragement… as always, you are a blessing! love you….Donna

  2. Hi Donna, this is the first time I have been able to reply to you as I was blocked but I’m trying an upgraded Browser now, I still can’t leave a like, but this is because of an attachment that blocks me from doing so.

Thank you for your prayers and support for my Christmas Blog, I will try to Post again soon, perhaps a special treat for your Grandchildren.

It is very True Donna as the Scriptures confirm, that we must put to death our flesh that causes us to sin. Paul tells us to aim for the goal which is to be perfected in Love as he was and other Christians, which is what you shared Donna but it is before we die that we are perfected not after. As the Scriptures confirm if we are Born Again we don’t sin , we can’t sin because we have God’s seed, this is why we are told to move on from repentance because it will no longer be needed, we won’t sin. As you know we are first to come to heart repentance which means we believe in Jesus and by doing so we receive the free gift of Salvation, we then put our flesh to death by The Spirit and are perfected in Love, which means we have the mind of Christ and we walk as He did which is without sin and as I shared before this is before we die not after.

1 John 3: 1-11 ( 9 ) No one who is Born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been Born of God.

1 John 5:18-20 We know that no one who is Born of God sins; but He who was Born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

1John 4:16-17 And we have known and believed the Love that God hath to us. God is Love; and he that dwelleth in Love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our Love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.

1 John 2:4-6 He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the Love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith hebideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.

    Christian Love Anne.

    • Hello Dear Anne,
Glad you were able to do some replies. It’s always good to hear from you! Praying this problem with your computer will continue to be resolved. I appreciate the verses you shared and agree with each one. I also believe scripture clearly states we have been given Jesus’ righteousness in its fullness. But I also believe we are instructed to work out our salvation as we learn how to use all that He has given us. It is the sanctification process. We have already been justified, made right with God. It is complete and finished. Everything He has purposed us to be has been fulfilled and completed at the cross. Yet we are being transformed into that reality from the cross as we live daily. These verses below use the words: may become.. constantly being…transformed…in ever increasing.. glory to glory. Some of us yield to this sanctification process more quickly than others and results are more evident. A new born baby has to learn to walk and a new born Christian has to also learn to walk in an abiding relationship with the Lord so as to avoid sinning. We who are believers have died to our desire to sin. We no longer want anything to do with sin, but we battle the flesh daily to become more and more in His image in the reality of our lives.
      Philippians 2 :12-16 (NKJV)
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

      2 Corinthians 3:18 (AMP)
18 And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.

It’s always good to share in love and respect and I appreciate your words very much.
love to you and to Ron…..Donna

      • Hi again Donna, I love that we can reason together, this is what God asks us to do when we have differences, we are not just to agree to disagree which in the end causes division , God is a God of Unity and it was never His will that the Church would be divided by Doctrine and Paul strongly warned against this too.

Yes I do agree we have the righteousness of Jesus but as the Scriptures tell us we will show we have it when we are Born Again.

1 John 3: 1-11 ( 6-7 ) Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.

As you also shared Donna, we are to work out our Salvation but this is not by the Flesh which must be put to death as we willingly choose to reject evil by walking in The fruit of The Spirit with His empowering, Galations 5, which is why God tells us to focus on what is good etc because as we think in our heart, so will our actions follow. Good and evil cannot co-exist when we come close to God the Devil flees, indeed we stink to Him of death as we do to all those who reject Jesus Christ.

Romans 8 :12-15 Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. or if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

God does indeed conform us into the image of Jesus, He chose us for this knowing we would come to heart repentance even before we were conceived but this does not take a lifetime if we are willing to let Him be in control. He tells us clearly, we will be perfected before we die after Satan puts us to the test like he did Job , Jesus, Paul and all Christians, we will be tried but we will be victorious, this is why we don’t sin when we are Born Again of His seed, we walk as Jesus did but we can’t do this in the flesh it must be put to death and so we have God’s nature and mind.

1 Peter 5 :10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

Romans 8:1-4 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

An important point Donna …….I find any Translation that has man’s own fleshy thoughts added can cause error if believed without The Spirits confirmation but if we have asked and received God’s wisdom and seek Jesus who is our only Teacher to lead us into all Truth by the empowering of The Holy Spirit, He will show us man’s error in what ever Translation we use.

I love you in Christ Jesus Donna and always will – Christian Love – Anne

  3. Dear Anne,
We agree on the basic doctrines of death to flesh, and that our righteousness is from Christ and Him alone. We can add nothing to that righteousness by any of our self effort, which is called dead works. The Holy Spirit is our guide, and the empowerment within us to live in the image of Christ. Yes, I also believe that God is a God of unity, and I also believe the Bible’s accounts of Paul, Peter, and Barnabas working toward their unity indicate it is an ongoing process.

Over time I have had opportunity to read completely through five translations of the Bible. I started with the King James Version, then read through the New King James Version, the New International Version, the Complete Hebrew Bible, and I have just finished the Amplified Bible. I must say that the Holy Spirit has used every one of the translations to deepen my relationship with the Lord. I have found little, if any, real contradiction between the translations. They all consistently point me to the same truths. Many of the anointed pastors and bible teachers, who have proven track records of accurately speaking God’s truths, and bearing much spiritual fruit, also use various translations to explain a truth from God’s word more clearly. I have even appreciated a verse from a paraphrase from time to time, but do not depend on them very much because of the looseness of the interpretation.

In saying all that, I realize that Jesus states the Holy Spirit will teach us:

John 14:26 King James Version (KJV)
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

To accept the Holy Spirit as a teacher, implies we must be students, willing to learn. That will involve abiding, listening and obeying the Holy Spirit… and growing as we learn. Our agreement and unity can rest in the fact our hearts desire the fullness of the Holy Spirit; that He is indeed teaching us; that we desire to walk in His Holiness, pleasing Him in the image of Jesus, and that we love each other.

    God blessings always Anne….love you….Donna

  4. Hi Donna, sorry for the length of this comment but more detail and Scripture was needed to confirm God’s Truth in reference to those things you shared, even so there is still more Scripture that I could have shared knowing you love the Scriptures as I do but perhaps another time,

As you know, I never agree to disagree but respond with correction or if Gods Truth is rejected, I walk away, so now I always seek His Truth not what has been taught by man or believed by many, without True conformation in the Scriptures, and this is regardless of how long the error has been believed . Sadly I accepted others understanding for many years before I asked for and received God’s wisdom and then being empowered by The Holy Spirit, Jesus who being Jewish called Himself our only Rabbi which is a Teacher guides me into all Truth. The Holy Spirit always points us to Jesus and the Father not Himself and He only teaches us what is passed on to Him and shows us Scripture as a whole picture not just in parts. Luke16:13-15

1John 2:26-28 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is Truth, and is no lie, and even as hath ye have been taught, ye shall abide in Him.

Matthew 10:26-28 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops (KJV)

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you shall go. I will guide you with Mine eye.

John 15:14-15 Ye are my Friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you Friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.(KJV)

Colossians 2 :2 -3 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in Love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

1John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is True, and we are in Him that is True, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and eternal life.

The dead works that are referred in Scripture Donna, are those things that come from the flesh not what is motivated and empowered by The Holy Spirit, dead works are not in reference to keeping God’s Commandments or not sinning, although some think they can earn their Salvation , which is a free gift as you know but we will show we have it. God has prepared in advance the good works we are to do and He will equip us to do them and also reward us for our faithfulness but to be good Vessels fit to be used for His work we must put our flesh to death by The Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 2:19-21 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His. And, let every one that nameth the Name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the Master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

    Romans 2:7-9 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the Truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

There is of course Donna deliberate deception in some Translations written by the Cults but ALL Translations have man’s error. Below is an example that has caused many to trust in the written word alone and not the Spirit of the word, which is what Jesus warned the Paresees about.

John 5: 39 – 40 Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Although I appreciate and am often blessed by what others share, they are not who I seek for guidance regardless of who they are, some Theologians have been very much in error and some continue to be today because of trusting in their own understanding or others, this is why God tells us we must test their Spirit which is what I do, everything that is claimed as Truth must be examined in the Jesus’ Light and not by the darkness of the flesh, otherwise we will never shine if we trust in man not God.

    Error in Translation.

Without God’s wisdom empowered by the Spirit we cannot understand the written word because it is Spiritually discerned -1Corinthians2:9-16

Hebrews 4:12-13 For the Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. (KJV )

Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, IT penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; IT judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account

There were no small particles such as… a, it, is, etc in the early Greek therefore the IT in this Translation is wrong, the Scriptures are referring to Jesus Christ the Living Word John 1:1 as we can see in the K.J.V it is not talking about the inspired written word which cannot be understood with out The Spirit, this has been taught in error, why is this important, we must always acknowledge Jesus as our Authority first, He is The Truth and our only Teacher and His word must not be added to or taken away from but as shown sometimes there is man made error which is not meant to deceive and He will show us this too.

Revelation 19:15-16 And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the Nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a Name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.

Perhaps some time, it would be good Donna to also reason about the True meaning of God’s wrath and His discipline many because of Hebrew and Greek Translating into english have got it wrong and because the meaning of words change over time, this is why we Trust God not man.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne

  5. Dear Anne, Indeed, only the Holy Spirit can reveal Truth and confirm it. I am so thankful for His divine guidance, and treasure every revelation He shares. Yes, the Holy Spirit will always point to Jesus and the Father. The peace that comes when the Holy Spirit of Jesus corrects and confirms His Truth is a great treasure to me. I have felt His loving redirection when needed, and completely trust where He leads me. Like you, my reliance is totally on the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ as my teacher and guide, not man or woman. Jesus is the Truth, the Way, the Light, the Word, the Life, and oh, so much more. Speaking one of His many names…Prince of Peace, King of Kings, the Son of God, the Lamb of God, brings my heart into worship every time. His name declares His glory, power, authority and dominion. It is because of His power to teach that I can rest in whatever translation I may read. My trust is fully in the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ to guard and protect me from false teaching and untruths, whether heard or read. It is His responsibility to watch over me, and He has never misled me. As I obey His leading, He continues to bless. Even if I were to read only the KJV, I still would have to totally dependent on the Holy Spirit to give me the correct interpretation.

Thanks for restating what I mentioned earlier about dead works. I must not have written it with enough clarity. Most assuredly, dead works is any work motivated by the flesh. Freedom born is a wonderful name and a reality for all of us filled by His Spirit. Blessings from the Lord for you and Ron. Peace between us dear sister….we are singing the same song of praise….love you…Donna

  6. Sorry Donna, I really am a cracked Vessel, just as well God is the Super Glue , I gave you the wrong Scripture referance yesterday, not sure how I read it wrong but I was rushing as Ron was taking me shopping.

As you also confirmed The Holy Spirit always points us to Jesus and the Father not Himself and He only teaches us what is passed on to Him and shows us Scripture as a whole picture not just in parts.

John 16:13 -15. Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for He shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Colossians 2 :2 -3 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in Love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Sorry again Donna for the mistake, I must go Ron is taking me out for a special Lunch today.

    Christian Love always – Anne
